Trees

I love trees.  I absolutely love them.  Maya 4.0, on the other hand, freaks out when you have too many of them.  I guess it's time for that upgrade to 7.

those are impressive trees. I wonder if its Maya, or the PC? Thats alot of curves...

We might want to consider playing iwth having trees fade into fog...or night. Forest at night could work.

Yeah, they didn't turn out too bad. This shot only has a single tree model, the one in front. All of the background trees were created with Maya's Paint effects. All kinds of vegitation can be created with it, and it responds to things like lighting, wind, etc. It's a HUGE time saver.

I was running a forest and city concept test:

and that's when Maya started to run REALLY slow. That's when I realized that everything upclose will have to be a high resolution model, and everything else can be either low res, matte, or something like Paint Effects.

Good idea with the fog! Yeah, a night forest could work too. We would need to find a reasonable light source, the moon might not be enough... ohh, what about fairy magic? glowing mushrooms? that sort of thing?
